Ani Pana runs NGO - non government organisation in Braila - Romania
Ani Pană's rescue journey began in 2012 with a stray dog named Lady, who gave birth to nine puppies while living on the streets. Lady and her puppies were taken to the Unirea shelter, where Ani rescued them. Tragically, only one puppy survived after the others succumbed to parvovirus.
Deeply affected by their story, Ani began visiting the shelter every week and, in 2013, founded her own animal rescue organisation. Since then, she has rescued hundreds of dogs from shelters and the streets, sharing their stories on Facebook to help them find loving homes while attracting sponsors who generously provide food and other essential supplies.
As the number of rescues grew, Ani moved to larger premises where she built kennels and expanded her work. Today, she takes in abandoned dogs from the streets, overcrowded shelters, and owners who are no longer able or willing to care for them.
Running the rescue is a constant challenge. The costs are enormous, from repairing and maintaining kennels to providing food, clean water, electricity, veterinary treatment, vaccinations, neutering, and 24-hour security through CCTV. Every adopted dog also requires ongoing care and preparation before they can begin their new life with a forever family.
Ani currently cares for 117 dogs. While she hopes many will find loving homes, those who are elderly, unwell, or unsuitable for adoption will always have a safe and loving place to live at her rescue.
Every day, Ani works tirelessly and selflessly to give abandoned and unwanted animals the second chance they deserve.
